Bacchus

Bacchus was an ancient Roman god. He was known as the god of harvest, grapes, fertility, theater and wine.

In mythology, Bacchus was believed to be the son of Jupiter, king of the gods, and the mortal woman Semele. Juno, the wife of Jupiter, was jealous over her husband’s affair, and convinced Semele to ask Jupiter to display himself in his true, godly form to prove who he was. Unfortunately, as a mortal, she could not bear the sight and died upon seeing him. Jupiter took the, as yet-unborn Bacchus, and sewed him onto his own thigh, thus leading Bacchus to be called twice born.

In his youth, Bacchus was believed to have discovered grape vines and began the cultivation of grapes and the fermentation of wine.

We, at Asheville Bacchus, have borrowed the name Bacchus as a nod to the ancient history and traditions of wine.

We are an independent wine makers club open to members of all experience levels.
Have you Ever wanted to learn how to make your own wine or just see how its done? It's easiest when you can learn with friends from experienced folks who have making their own wine for 30+ years. We can help guide you on your way.

Come to Asheville Bacchus' wine making course Sunday, September 13 and begin your own wine adventure! If you are an experience wine maker, we will be touching on Radical Wine Making: Thinking outside of the box, in each class as well.

This is the first in a series of classes that will run through fundamentals, intermediate and advanced wine making.

Sunday, September 13, we will be meeting at Asheville Brewers' Supply, 712 Merrimon Ave # B, Asheville, NC 28801.


There will now be two classes on Sunday, September, 13. We have limited the # of attendees to 25 per class to maintain focused attention.

The classes will be First: 12:00 pm to 2 pm. Second: 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Each class will cover a brief history of the making of wine, the fundamentals of making wine that is easily as good or in most cases better than you can buy and is always less expensive. We will explore all 4 phases of the wine making process including bottling in each class. Each paid participant will get to take a bottle of the wine we made home with you.

This will Fun, informative and a great Social event!

Asheville Bacchus Wine Social

Asheville Bachus' inaugural meeting for independent wine makers of All levels and interest is Wednesday, August 12 at 6 pm. This amazing wine makers group social will be held at Asheville Brewers Supply on Merrimon. Please bring samples of your own wine and mead to share or just come and enjoy, commune and share.
